Cure or Healing?

Part of my journey and my message is to help people know that taking insulin for the diagnosis of type 1 or 2 diabetes is not a cure. And a cure is not really what I am looking for anyway.

What I seek is HEALING!

I know that the human body, or let’s say, “My Body,” is really good at healing. When I skin my knee or cut my finger, my body heals, automatically. Let me repeat “My Body Heals Automatically.”  Do you believe that? Do you really believe that? If so, what are you (or I) doing to block your (or my) healing? What are you doing to block your happiness?

What’s the big deal about wanting to not have to take insulin for controlling my blood sugar? The insulin from the pharmacy is an unnatural substance that contains additives and preservatives that have completely unknown consequences when injected into the body. Some say that many so called diabetic complications, like tendon stiffness and contractures in the hands and feet, are caused from the chemicals in the injected insulin, not the consequence of high blood sugars from diabetes itself. Many people who are not diabetics themselves have no idea how difficult it can be for a diabetic, who is injecting an unnatural substance into their body several times a day, to match the food intake to the amount of insulin. As I said, insulin injections are not a cure, far from it. A very small miscalculation can cause very dangerous low blood sugars. These low blood sugars must be constantly monitored, as they can cause confusion, coma, or even death.

Dramatic? Yes! I have never been close to death, but last night I was in a state of high confusion and was glad to have Denny, my husband, around to help me until my blood sugar was in the safe range.

I am not complaining at all. I am being dramatic for the sake of explaining that taking insulin is not a simple fix. And if I can figure out a more satisfactory way to manage this diabetes thing, I will shout it from the roof tops!

Many people are successful eliminating Type 2 diabetes through lifestyle changes to diet, exercise, etc. Since Denny has had his own issues with blood sugar and overcome them through a farm to table, locally-sourced ketogenic diet. We will write a later blog about that. So this website will be my story of discovery. I hope I have not misled anyone, hoping to find a simple cure or even a way to heal type 1. I am on much less insulin than most type 1 diabetics, and I will happily share my journey with you.
